Pathways
The Gecko’s Path is all about pathways- in name and in nature.
To make accessing our service as easy and equitable as possible, we provide multiple processes for referral.
The intake session is a chance for us all to get to know each other, parents/ careers, client, and therapist. This is the opportunity to let us know about your family situation, your concerns, your expectations, your questions. This is a very open and confidential conversation. The therapist will take notes to enable the therapist to create a plan for the therapy sessions.
While parents and carers are always welcome to have additional conversations with me, this is the only session where we will all be together until the evaluation at the end of 10 sessions.
*Confidentiality will be maintained with the exception of if the client has disclosed information which leads the therapist to believe that the client or others are in psychological or physical danger; in which case relevant persons or organisations will be contacted. Parents / carers will be kept in the loop as appropriate if this occurs.
We will schedule a series of 10 therapeutic sessions based on the clients’ needs. The sessions are confidential*, the contents will not be shared with the parent/ carer; however, we will give feedback about any recommendations or ideas for home and/or school.
Sessions will include visual arts, sound and movement, dramatic arts, and language arts as appropriate. This means that sometimes, we will get messy! We provide smocks, but it is advisable to send clients in clothes that are ok to get paint / clay / mud / etc on them.
The evaluation session takes place at the end of 10 therapy sessions. This is a session where we are all together again, parents/ carers, client, and therapist.
The purpose of this session is to decide if we close or continue therapy sessions. We discuss progress made, and recommendations for future.
This is an open discussion where we will not try to coerce either way; we will give our recommendations and opinions, but the decision will remain with the family.
Depending on the referral pathway you choose, there may or may not be out of pocket expenses.
Mental Health Plans provide 10 sessions paid through Medicare, with no out of pocket expense to the parent/ carer.
NDIS Plan Referrals will be paid through the NDIS with no out of pocket expense to the parent/ carer.
Private referrals are paid at the conclusion of each session. Payment is expected on the day. Should you have any concerns with this, please discuss with us prior to the session.
If your family has private health insurance, you may be entitled to a rebate; check with your private health insurer.
Costs are determined by current therapeutic price guidelines and are subject to change. Parents/ carers will be notified should any change occur. If you have any concerns about pricing, please discuss with us.
